Skin tone chart FAQ
What is a skin tone chart?
A skin tone chart is a visual reference of named skin shades — from porcelain to ebony — used to identify your complexion, undertone (cool, warm, or neutral), and the colors that flatter you most. It's the foundation of personal color analysis, foundation matching, and dressing for your skin tone.
How do I know my skin tone?
Compare the inside of your wrist or your jawline to a skin tone chart in natural light. Then check your undertone: if your veins look blue/purple, you're likely cool; green-tinted veins indicate warm; a mix indicates neutral. The Season Palette quiz combines this with eye and hair color to assign your seasonal palette.
What are the main skin tone categories?
Skin tones are commonly grouped into six Fitzpatrick types (I–VI), and described with named shades like porcelain, ivory, beige, honey, caramel, mahogany, and ebony. Within each, your undertone (cool, warm, or neutral) determines which colors flatter you.
Which colors look good on my skin tone?
Cool undertones glow in jewel tones, true white, navy, and silver. Warm undertones flatter from earth tones, ivory, camel, gold, and warm reds. Neutral undertones flex between both. The Season Palette personal color test maps your skin, eyes, and hair to one of 12 seasonal palettes.
